In general thereis a difference in the amount of rainfall according to latitudeand altitude. Since in high latitudes and high altitudes thetemperature of the air is low, and therefore contains littlevapor, the amount of rain that can be condensed in theseplaces is less than in the warm tropics, where the air ishumid. Still, there is much variation in this respect, as willreadily be seen by a glance at Plate 12. Without entering into the subject in great detail, a fewnotable facts shown on this chart may be pointed out. Itwill be noticed that in the belts where the trade winds blowupon the land, the rainfall is heavy, while in those placeswhere they blow over the land, the rainfall is slight.
