English: Printed DS: "Matthias" as Holy Roman Emperor, 1p, 201/2x231/2.. Vienna, 1618 August 28. In Latin, not translated. Matthias was Governor General of Spanish Netherlands (1577-1581) and was appointed Governor of Austria in 1593 by his brother Emperor Rudolf. In 1606, he forced by treaty from Rudolf, the cession of Austria, Hungary and Moravia. Matthias was crowned King of Bohemia in 1617 and of Hungary in 1618. The uprising in Prague in 1618 was the beginning of the Thirty Years' War. Matthias served as Holy Roman Emperor from 1612-1619. Foxed mostly in blank areas. Fine 21/4-inch wax seal affixed at lower margin. Heavy vertical folds do not interfere with signatures. Overall, fine condition for its age.
