Summary

[edit]
Description English Electric Canberra PR9 at the RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, 8 July 2020. First flying in 1949 as a replacement for the de Havilland Mosquito, the Canberra was one of the most successful post-war British combat aircraft. It lasted in service from 1951 to 2006, an incredible 55 years, although part of the reason for that was that two of its proposed successors - the production of the BAe TSR2 and the purchase of the General Dynamics F-111 - were cancelled, so the Canberra had to soldier on. It is a tribute to the quality of the aircraft that it did just that. It was difficult to take this picture because the presence of three hulking V-bombers below it precluded a clear view of the aircraft.
