Summary[edit]

Description
English: A First Great Western Class 43 HST powercar leads crosses the bridge over the River Avon into Bath Spa railway Station en route from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads. The black and white board in the right midground of the photo marks the start of the Kennet and Avon Canal, which with the Avon and Kennet Navigations and Bristol Floating Harbour formed the major transport route from London to Bristol in the generation before the Great Western Railway. The M4 motorway, the flagship London to Bristol transport highway of the late 20th century runs more than 5 miles north of Bath city centre.
