Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Faodhail a Tuath This expanse of sand is one of the two, one each to the north and south of Benbecula, from which the island gets its name, Beinn na Faoghla, 'the hill of the two fords'. 'Faodhail' means a stretch of water shallow enough to wade across at low tide. My Gaelic is not up to knowing how you get 'faoghla' from the plural of 'faodhail', however. 'Tuath' is 'north'. The South Ford separates Benbecula from its southern neighbours, Griomasagh and South Uist.
