Summary[edit]
DescriptionFarmer's Bridge Top Lock and Cambrian Wharf, Birmingham - geograph.org.uk - 990130.jpg |
English: Farmer's Bridge Top Lock and Cambrian Wharf, Birmingham. This, the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal joins the Coventry Canal at Fazeley Junction, a distance of fifteen miles, and including thirty-eight locks, including the Farmer's Bridge flight, the Aston flight, the Minworth flight and the Curdworth flight.
The Farmer's Bridge flight of thirteen locks drops the water level by 81 feet (about 25 metres). The moored boats are in the basin known as the Cambrian Wharf. The white notice by the lock gate informed us that the River Severn was closed to navigation, and that the Stourbridge Canal was also closed due to a serious breach of an embankment (see 973448). Plan C was then put into force: 24 locks in the pouring rain followed by dreadful ice cold "ale" in the Tyburn House pub. |
