Description
Nederlands: ALMKERK/ALTENA - Binnen het Europese project Natura 2000 is gestart met de aanleg van diverse watergangen in en rondom het natuurgebied Pompveld.

Natura 2000 is een Europees beschermingsprogramma voor het behoud en bevordering van diverse natuurwaarden. De provincie heeft uiteindelijk vanuit het Europese fonds subsidie verstrekt waardoor gestart kon worden met de uitvoering. Specifiek voor het natuurgebied Pompveld waar nu de werkzaamheden zijn gestart richt Brabants Landschap zich op het behoud en bevordering van 3 vissoorten. Het betreft hier de met uitsterven bedreigde grote Modderkruiper, kleine Modderkruiper en de Bittervoorn.

Binnen het project worden de gebieden Slot Loevestein, Pompveld en de Kornsche Boezem aan elkaar verbonden. Het zijn nu nog eilandjes waarbij de soorten niet goed bij elkaar weten te komen, met fase 2 van het project zal dit worden bevorderd. Met de aanleg van een nieuw kanaal rondom Pompveld, het veranderen en vernieuwen van sloten en met zorg voor een natuurlijke leefomgeving ontstaat een betere habitat en een prachtige aanvulling op het natuurgebied.
