O curió cujo nome científico é Oryzoborus é originário da América do Sul e América Central, era encontrado em toda costa brasileira O nome Curió na língua tupi guarani significa "Amigo do Homem", pois este pássaro gostava de viver perto da aldeia dos índios. Esta característica de se aproximar do ser humano, a sua elegância, a enorme capacidade de disputar pelo canto quem é o dominador do território, e a enorme qualidade de seu canto, fez com que o homem procurasse cada vez mais domesticar estas aves .

O seu desaparecimento na natureza bem como outras espécies, deve-se aos desmatamentos, a poluição dos rios e lagoas, a presença de agrotóxicos nas plantações.
