| Description |
English: Flood relief works at Long Itchington (6) Looking southwest towards the bridge carrying the road to Bascote over the River Itchen. As part of works to improve flood defences, the original course of the River Itchen has been diverted 25 metres south. This photo is taken from the higher embankment which has been built to protect the village.
As well as realignment of the river, the scheme includes repairs to concrete flood defence walls and the establishment of a wetland nature reserve. The scheme is being carried out by the Environment Agency and work started in August 2009. |
