ACALYPHA SANDERII ARAUCARIA EXCELSA. Araucaria Fxcelsa. (Norfolk Island Pine.) Various names have been selected for this grand plant to properly convey to the mind the appearance of it. Some have called it the "Christmas Tree Palm" from its resemblance to a Christmas tree; others have called it the "Star Palm," because the leaves are arranged to form a perfect star, but no descrip- tive name can give any adequate idea of its beauty. It has deep green, feathery foliage, arranged in whorls, rising one above the other at regular distances; its symmetry of form, grace and beauty of foliage are unequaled in the vegetable kingdom. It is easily grown in the house and is highly orna- mental. (See illustration.) The first two sizes can only be sent by express. Price, splendid plants, 18 to 24 inches high, four and five tiers of leaves, $2.00 each; 12 to 18 inches high, four tiers of leaves, $1.50 each; fine plants, 10 inches high, three tiers of leaves, $1.00 each. The Chenille or Comet Plant. (See Illustration.) Leaves are dark green, from the axil of each of which springs a long, drooping spike of glowing crimson-scarlet flowers, nearly an inch in diameter and from eighteen to twenty-four inches long, very velvety in texture, reminding one of a long piece of brilliant chenille. An exceedingly curious and interesting novelty; unlike any other decorative plant. The accompanying illustration gives a better idea of the formation of this plant than any description that we can give. This plant is never out of bloom. It is bound to have a large sale on account of its oddity and rarity. Price, 25 cents each. Carex Japonica Variegata. A new ornamental Japanese grass which is extremely useful as a house plant, of easy growth, standing the dry atmosphere of heated rooms with impunity, and at the same time hardy if planted out in the garden in Summer. Price, 10 cents each. Hardy Chinese Matrimony Vine. The old-fashioned Matrimony Vine was a general favorite more than fifty years ago, but in beauty of flower, fruit and foliage, it cannot compare with this superb variety. It is a most vigorous, hardy climbing plant when trained to an arbor, fastened to a fence attached to a tree, to the side of a house, the pillars of a piazza, or in any location where a hardy, vigorous climber is desired. Price, 10 cents each. Confederate, or Malayan Jasmine. (Rhynchospermum Jasminoides.) Now that climbers are so much in vogue, we are pleased to be able to offer this very rare sort, knowing that it will delight every purchaser. To be able to have the most deli- cate, sweet-scented and pure white, waxy-like flowers in profusion almost the whole year round, and dark evergreen foliage to set them off to advantage, is something that can- not be had from other plants. For florists, nothing could be more useful, as it blooms more profusely in winter than any other time, making it a most desirable house plant. Price, 15 cents each; two for 25 cents; large specimen plants, 50 cents each.
