Summary[edit]

Description
English: Rug People 2011 – the former Folkestone Harbour Station
A plaque, fixed to one of the roof’s supports on the platform opposite the artwork, has the following information: Paloma Varga Weisz (1966, Germany). ‘Rug People’ 2011. Bronze, carpet, wood. Carrying a group of five strange visitors, a carpet appears to have landed on the tracks, as if out of some unknown fairy tale or mirage. The work is inspired by the history of the now abandoned station, the refugee camps in Calais and Varga Weisz’s father’s fate of emigration. Paloma Varga Wiesz was born in 1966 and is a contemporary artist living in Germany. She is best known for her sculptures and drawings.
