Summary[edit]
DescriptionFossil trail of giant myriapod - geograph.org.uk - 854033.jpg |
English: Fossil trail of giant myriapod of the family Arthropleuridae near Laggan, Isle of Arran, Scotland. Two parallel fossil tracks running down and left from the pointing fingers. These are on a sloping slab of Carboniferous sandstone (about 300 Million years old) on the RH side of a narrow shingly inlet close to the “Duchess Anne’s salt pan” building.[1] For discussion of arthropleurid trace fossils (this one belongs to the ichnogenus Diplichnites), see Briggs et al. (1979).[2] Not visible, by the camera position, there is a 9in. coal seam outcropping.
