An idea for anotherriverside house is indi-cated on page 104, andassumes a locaHty wherereed thatching is thenatural roof coveringsuch as that to be foundin parts of the EasternCounties. For the restthe building would be ofbrick, common hard well-burnt local bricks, thicklywhitewashed. The houseplan contains a centralhall, a living-room witha small sitting-room orparlour opening from oneend, and a large work-room or studio from theother end, but at a higherlevel, as the sketch shows.There is also a smalldining-room to be usedfor that purpose only,and eight bedrooms onthe first floor with fourattics over. The watershown in the sketch issuggested as an exten-sion to a backwater, andjoined to the latter by asmall garden given up towhich is on the opposite side of the house to the water-plants. All the effect of garden would becloister court, is about at the same level as the obtained on this
