Description
English: Portrait of a Commonwealth Railways G class tender locomotive, no. G9, probably at Port Augusta, South Australia. The locomotive was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, USA. It entered service in July 1914, was allocated to Port Augusta, and was officially withdrawn in January 1952.

This is one of a number of images in the collection of the State Library of South Australia depicting Commonwealth Railways locomotives said to have been taken about 1951, the year the new Commonwealth Railways GM class diesel-electric locomotives began to replace the CR's remaining steam locomotive fleet on the Trans-Australia Railway.
