CHINESE BRONZES. A set of three bronze ornaments inlaid with silver from the Sung Dynasty,960-1279 A. I). To the right is a bronze libation cup, probably used in religious ceremonies, from the Shang Dynasty, 1766-1123 B. C. northern Asia. Specimens illustrating theculture, industries, religion and manufac-ture of China are on the left. Others,showing the mode of living, the costumes,and the war implements of Siberia, areon the right. The fur-work, costumes, and rugs ithe people of eastern Siberia reveal re-markable skill in workmanship. Twomodels show respectively summer andwinter scenes in Siberia. In the rear arccollections from Japan, the Ainu and theAmur River tribes noted for decoratedfabrics and picturesque costumes. The collections on the left side of thehall deal mainly with the everyday life ofthe modern Chinese and have a specialvalue, as they were made just before thesweeping changes of the last few yearstook place.
