Nederlands: De 7e editie van het NOvA Gerbrandydebat vond plaats op 16 november 2016. Advocaten, politici, wetenschappers en ervaringsdeskundigen gingen met elkaar de discussie aan over actuele vraagstukken op het snijvlak van advocatuur en politiek.
Openingspleidooi Welke uitdagingen kent de advocatuur in Turkije anno 2016? Met de recente couppoging in het achterhoofd en de daarop volgende turbulente ontwikkelingen ligt het antwoord voor de hand. De president van de Turkse Balies, Professor Metin Feyzioğlu, stond hier uitgebreid bij stil tijdens zijn inleidend pleidooi. Debat I - de Europese vluchtelingencrisis Tijdens het eerste debat gingen we in op de vraag hoe om te gaan met de slepende Europese vluchtelingencrisis. Is de politiek in Nederland en Europa in staat met oplossingen te komen? Is het (slechts) een kwestie van beleid? Zo ja, hoe verhouden de door de politiek aangedragen oplossingen (terugsturen, opvang in de regio etc.) zich tot de internationale verdragen? Professor André Nollkaemper, o.a. volkenrechtadviseur, vreemdelingenrechtadvocate Barbara Wegelin (Everaert Advocaten) en Malik Azmani (Tweede Kamerlid VVD) gingen hierover de discussie aan. Debat II - de strijd tegen terrorisme Tijdens het tweede debat stonden we stil bij de overheid die in haar strijd tegen het terrorisme steeds weer nieuwe of aanvullende wetgeving bedenkt. De vraag is hoe effectief dergelijke wetgeving is? Moeten de inlichtingendiensten niet gewoon slimmer te werk gaan? Schiet het kabinet door in het veiligheidsdenken? Emeritus-hoogleraar Hans Ulrich Jessurun d’Oliveira (Prakken d’Oliveira), advocaat Eric Steller (Van Gessel Jonge Vos Hammerstein Advocaten), Jeroen Recourt (Tweede Kamerlid PvdA) en generaal-majoor (b.d.) drs. Pieter Cobelens, oud-directeur van de Militaire Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst (MIVD) gaven hun ongezouten mening! |
