Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Record made by Giacomo Casanova (1725–1798) telling a story about his audience at the emperor Leopold II in Prague. The well-known adventurer and womanizer spent the rest of his life as a librarian and a companion of the count Joseph Charles Eusebius von Wallenstein at the Duchcov chateau. Today afternoon, 22 September [1791], the emperor asked me what I was concerned with at Duchcov and I replied to him I was arranging an Italian anthology. – Do you have any Italians [in the library] then? – All of them, your Majesty. See, where a lie may lead you. If I had not lied to him about preparing an anthology, I would not have tohave lied again about having all of the Italian poets. If the emperor comes to Duchcov, I shall kill myself.(State Regional Archives in Prague, Casanova Giacomo, sign. U16i/10.)
Protože Casanova odkázal všechny své písemnosti hraběti Valdštejnovi, je v centrále Státního oblastního archivu v Praze, vedle dalších valdštejnských archivních fondů, uložen i osobní fond Giacomo Casanovy. U16i/10.)
