Summary[edit]
DescriptionGiffard's Cross Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 277262.jpg |
English: Giffard's Cross Bridge. The bridge spans over the Shropshire Union Canal which is in deep cutting at this point. This section of canal was constructed by Thomas Telford in 1835. The uncompromising approach to engineering resulted in very deep cuttings and substantially reduced the number of locks. Goods could travel from Birmingham to Liverpool in about 45 hours.
