Description
English: Title: Gli animali parlanti

Abstract: Italian political cartoon shows a banquet where many different species of animals have come together in peace to celebrate the wedding of the lion and the lioness, shown on the left reclining on a mound of dead animals; gathered around the table, at center, are bears, a goat, lions, a donkey, a unicorn, a camel, and an elephant; in the lower right foreground are a bull and a goat, at upper right, behind a wall labeled "Ciornalisti", are dogs and a wild cat, they hold papers labeled "Pays, Times, Allgemeine Zeitung, Fanfulla, [and] Viener Zeitun". At top center, next to a tree, is a rabbit sitting on a stone labeled "Vatican[?]", and at lower right center is a monkey magician labeled "Diplomazia", holding a wand and lifting the lid to a pot containing armaments, medals, and a red cross flag; the pot rests on a small table in front of the monkey, there are also two scrolls labeled "Decret" and "Diploma" on the table. A monkey sits at the feet of the lion and lioness, twisting together their tails, between his legs is a feather duster labeled "Canceliere". Many of the guests have champagne glasses and they are identified by the inscription on the glass; next to the wedding couple is a glass labeled "Germania", the goat and bear hold glasses labeled "Serbia" and "Montenegi[...]", the donkey's glass is labeled "Austria", the camel's glass is labeled "Ecitto", the unicorn's glass is labeled "Inghilter", and the bull's glass is labeled "Rumelia". The elephant is drinking from a bottle labeled "Suez". Physical description: 1 print : chromolithograph ; sheet 42.2 x 58.9 cm.
