TRAVELLING-BAG, IN BEAD-WORK,

Materials.—Coarse canvas ; torquoise, maize, alabas-ter, ruby, and black beads—all No. 1. Also a reel ofcotton, No. 10, and several skeins of coarse black crochetsilk. The entire design and border are worked inbeads, the canvas being chosen of such a sizethat each bead covers a square. Penelope can- vas is far the best for every sort of beadwork.Put on the beads with strong cotton, and all inthe same direction. The alabaster appear onlyin the border, and are represented by thosesquares that are quite white. The black are;engraved the same color; and the blue are: 288 godeys ladys book and magazine. marked, both in the border and the piece, byhorizontal lines. A line of rubies goes downeach side of the border, and these beads alsoform part of the piece. They are representedby black squares, with a dot in each. Thosesquares in the pattern which are crossed bothways are done in maize beads. The ground is worked with black silk in or-dinary cross-stitch ; but of course wool may beused
