English: Going to seed - Joe Pye Weed at Cosmeston Lakes Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpureum), a native of North America, is in fact a herb of large proportions sometimes exceeding 2 metres in height and spread. So named, it is said, after a doctor of sorts who used it in his preparations but also known as Boneset because one of its uses was to help in the healing of broken bones. It is also claimed to be useful in dealing with renal problems such as kidney stones as well as other ailments. Flowering between early to mid-summer and early autumn it is a butterfly magnet. |
