| Description |
English: Grazing land with row of trees. This is the remnant of a Devon hedge, a field boundary, originally a high earth bank (about 6 ft high) planted on top with a double line of beech trees. The corresponding sides have been demolished, to facilitate modern farming operations, but would have formed a four sided enclosed field. The earth bank has been worn down by livestock over the decades and the trees have been allowed to grow to maturity instead of being laid horizontal/pleached every 15 years or so. It now forms a picturesque feature. This row of trees provides a little shelter for livestock, rather than forming a field boundary. North Molton Ridge can be seen in the background. |
