Description
English: Greenwich Hospital: a design for remodelling the north-west (Chapel) corner of the Queen Mary Court

An undated capriccio study for remodelling the north-west corner of the Queen Mary Court of Greenwich Hospital in the Palladian manner, showing the north and west faces of the colonnade under classical pediments springing directly above projecting columned bays, the whole colonnade also being heightened and reordered in Corinthian style, with steps set east to west down from the Chapel in the corner angle between. The north facade of the Chapel (left) is also shown as re-articulated with Corinthian pilasters, alternate round and triangular pedimented windows in the style of the Banqueting House, Whitehall, and with two statues on the centreline of the roof. The drawing is laid down on a contemporary lined paper mount. Figures of Greenwich Pensioners are included in the foreground and in the Chapel entrance bay.
