Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Gulworthy: waterwheel at Morwellham Another view of this overshot waterwheel, said to be 32 foot diameter, but thought by one millwright to be slightly less. The shrouds which contain the buckets taking the water were cast in 1902 by Henry Beare & Sons of Newton Abbot. It was brought from a china clay mine at Headon, Cornwood, to the east of Plymouth and was donated by Watts, Blake and Bearne, as a replacement for the original waterwheel, used to crush manganese. New shroud segments were cast by Irons Bros of Wadebridge and the wheel was rebuilt by Ron Hobley of Broadclyst in 1975. Several more of Beare’s waterwheels survive in Devon and another wheel rescued from a Devon farm now serves as the power source at Town Mill, Lyme Regis, Dorset
