| Description |
English: Gutted The pier was originally built in 1904 but was (first) destroyed by fire in 1930. It was re-built and re-opened in 1933 being listed as a Grade-II monument in 1974.
The pier's structure is still standing and the owners are planning to re-build it as soon as possible (see link). This photo was taken on the day the main section of the Grand Pier burnt to its supporting beams. Taken from Knightstone Island. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/7529611.stm |
