Summary
[edit]DescriptionHadlow Tower - geograph.org.uk - 1420204.jpg |
English: Hadlow Tower Hadlow Castle tower, also known as May's Folly.
The Gothic mansion of Hadlow Castle was built in the late 1780s by Walter May and inherited by Walter Barton May in 1823 who built the tower in stages through the 1830s and 40s. The Royal Observer Corps occupied the Castle and tower through the Second World War, though the castle was demolished in 1951. The Great Storm of 1987 damaged the 40ft lantern that topped the tower at 210ft and it was removed in 1990. |
