Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil at the Ottoman Bank. In 1886, at the age of 21, Halid Ziya Bey, son of the prominent Uşakizade family in Izmir (who would come to be known as the famous novelist Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil) started working at the Turkish correspondence service of the Ottoman Bank’s Izmir branch. Halid Ziya Bey resigned from the bank when the governor of Izmir offered him an administrative position in 1892; however, he kept fond memories from those years. Such was his admiration for this career that he offered to be replaced by his cousin Muammer Bey, who would later become Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s father-in-law. He argued that his own experience should be followed by future generations of the Turkish youth. Halid Ziya Bey made sure that both his sons Halil Vedad and Ahmed Bülend spent at least a few years of their career working at the Ottoman Bank.

Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil’in Memuriyeti. İzmir’in hâli vakti yerinde ailelerinden olan Uşakizadeler’den Halid Ziya Bey -geleceğin meşhur romancısı Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil- 21 yaşındayken Osmanlı Bankası İzmir Şubesi’nin Türkçe servisinde çalışmaya başladı.
