Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Title: Hanukkah lamp

Description: The decoration of this Hanukkah lamp combines old and new, eastern and western, in a fusion characteristic of the Middle East in the 20th century. The combination of metals is known as damascene work; it is based on Islamic techniques and metalwork decoration of the 13th to 16th centuries. This technique was practiced by Jewish craftsmen from the late 19th century into the 20th. The twisted columns and the menorot flanking the figure of Moses, crown and paired deer are drawn from the Eastern European decorative vocabulary.
