Nederlands: DUITS LIJNTJE 150 JAAR
Boxtel - Het Duits lijntje bestaat dit jaar 150 jaar. Deze spoorlijn is een hele tijd onderdeel geweest van een belangrijke Europese route van Londen naar Sint-Petersburg. Het stukje dat vanuit Noord-Brabant de grens oversteekt naar het Duitse Wesel, is in de volksmond Het Duits Lijntje gaan heten. Het Duits Lijntje is zoals gezegd niet alleen regionaal een aanwinst, maar ook internationaal. Het lijntje is zo populair dat allerlei belangrijke figuren er gebruik van maken. De koningshuizen van Engeland, Wales, Pruisen en Rusland (de tsaren) zijn allemaal familie van elkaar en hebben een sterke band. Niet voor niets zoeken zij elkaar regelmatig op. Zo reist Wilhelm II, keizer van Duitsland en koning van Pruisen, over het Lijntje naar Engeland om bij zijn oma, koningin Victoria op bezoek te gaan en vice versa. Ook Nederlandse en Duitse pelgrims wisten hun weg te vinden naar bedevaartsplaatsen als Kevelaer en bezochten de processies in Boxmeer, Handel en Boxtel. In 1950 werd de lijn voor personenvervoer gesloten en in 2004 beëindigde de NS het goederenvervoer dat nog plaatsvond tussen Boxtel en Veghel. |
