English: Hillsborough Fort, Co Down.
Hillsborough Fort was built in about 1650 for Col Arthur Hill, the first Earl of Hillsborough. Its fortunes varied over the years and included a spell in the 1830s as an armoury for the Hillsborough Yeomanry. It passed into public ownership in 1925. The grounds are open to the public and it can be reached from the main street or by the forest (where there is a car park). |
