Description |
The exhibit "Histoire de l'habitation Humaine" was located on the banks of the Seine, next to the Eiffel Tower. The exhibit sought to represent different eras and different stages in the evolution of houses. The buildings were conceived by the architect Charles Garnier, who is best known for having designed the Opéra Garnier in Paris in 1875. The exhibit retraced the evolution of the design of houses, and also explored the various forms of dwellings in different parts of the world. The building on the bottom of the right side in the print is composed according to a chronological agenda: the left part is inspired by the Roman period, the middle part by the Medieval era, and the right part by Renaissance architecture. The three parts of the house grow taller from left to right, suggesting progress in techniques and in architectural design. |
