The father was well known as a manufacturer of gratesand fenders in New York city, a business in which the Jackson family was engaged formore than two hundred and fifty years. He was a member of the firm of William H.Jackson & Company, of Union Square. Dr. Jackson has back of him an ancestry honorable and distinguished, for on thefamily records appear the names of Sillcocks, Hull and Conover, all of which figured,too, in connection with the Revolutionary war, having sent their representatives to the fieldin defense of American interests. In his boyhood days Dr. Jackson attended the publicschools of New York, passing through consecutive grades to the high school. Ere hisstudent days were over he became a clerk in a wholesale drug store and there remainedfor a year or more. Possessing a strong desire for professional life, he then took up thestudy of medicine in the New York Medical University unde
