so essential for a preacher of the gospel to retain in order to giveefficacy to his ministerial labor, and so necessary for a people to have in onewhom they are to consider as their spiritual guide, a messenger of truth, anda director iu the important matters of religion. 2dly, His indulging himselfin the injurious and unchristian practice of slandering, and his evident disre-gard for the truth, tending to derogate from the dignity of his saered office, andconsequently, to lessen that reverential respect due to religion, especially inthe tender minds of the rising generation. 3dly, That he does not practisethose things which make for peace, but on the contrary, by practising fraudand deception, keeps up disturbances in tbe church, especially in his officialconduct in the late case of Samuel Crosby, Esq., all of which operate to theinjury and disturbance of the town, consequently are deemed sufficient rea-sons to justify them in giving their opinion that his usefulness as a teacher of

Voted that the committee should furnish Mr. Brownwith a copy of the foregoing. PROCEEDINGS OF THE COUNCIL. According to the proposals in the proceedings of the town, citedabove, a council was held in September. No copy of the result of thisbody is to be found in the Records, or in the papers in the custodyof the town clerk. If the Church Records ever contained a copy, itwas carried away or destroyed by Mr. Brown. The following is takenword for word, from a copy of the result, in the handwriting of Dr.Payson, of Rindge, N. H. It was kindly furnished by the Hon. Ar-temas Hale, of Bridgewater, a native of Winchendon, and son of Dea.Moses Hale. It was found among his venerable fathers papers, andis here given at length.
