Summary
[edit]DescriptionHouseboats at Woodham on the Basingstoke Canal - geograph.org.uk - 434605.jpg |
English: Houseboats at Woodham on the Basingstoke Canal When the Basingstoke Canal was unusable for navigation, a large number of houseboats established themselves in the lower reaches of the canal around Woodham. These were the permanent homes of their owners. When restoration of the canal got underway, it was necessary to remove these boats, which obviously had to be done with sensitivity. Sadly, in the end, a number of the boats were burned or otherwise vandalised. |
