no Montalti Milanese. 1 Nel Catalogo 1912 (X. 346) è invece attribuita a G-ian Fietro Rizzi detto Criam-pietrino. 2 Trovasi nelle sale del Museo Archeologico (N.° 1028. 906 dinv.) ed è erroneamenteattribuita al Carpioni. 3 Gir. N.° 343, Gat. 1912. Nella Biblioteca dellAccademia Carrara (Cartella V, fase. 12)ho trovato dodici lettere del pittore milanese Carlo Tagliabue al conte Carrara, cheriguardano lacquisto di questa tavola. La quale doveva essere in ben misere condi-zioni se dalla pala si credette opportuno ritagliare la sola figura della Vergine colbambino, sacrificando tutto il resto. Scriveva il Tagliabue al conte Carrara il 27 Gen-naio 1785 (lett. 5): «Il Sig. Monti di Casa Borromea che riverisce distintamente la S.V. Ill.i» ha fatto tagliare dal gran quadro di Gaudenzio lintera B. V. col bambino eoiò colla mia assistenza, onde non resterà che mandi a prenderlo, che franco di Daziole sarà spedito >. Il quadro fu pagato cinque gigliati ed un mezzo scudo (lett, 7-9).

Linvenzione di questafigura è di Tiziano ed è alle stampe. Si servi questo maestro diquesta invenzione e la condusse nel suo stile morbido e bello. 38. S. Agostino, opera di Bartolomeo Schidoni. Come al N. 36 di que-sto foglio pare esser simile lautore. 39. S. Francesco, opera di Agostino Caracci. Bolognese. Bellissimo. 40. Modello ove sono figurati SS.
