ONE OF THREE MASSIVE BLUE AXD WHITE PALACE JAHS 4fi!j -Tiihk.k Massive Hi.i i, and White Temple Jars—PalacePieces (Kang-hxi) Beautifully drawn sprays of flowers and leaves cover the whiteground all about the body of the vase, interrupted by four ovalmedallions modeled in the paste and outlined with a band ofwhite reserve, containing portraits of Mine, de Maintenon seatedin different attitudes. An elaborate border of foliations sur-rounds the shoulder, and other borders encircle the neck andbase. The painting is in cobalt-blue of rich quality* under aglaze of great brilliance. Mandarin covers, similarly adorned.(The buttons of the covers have been repaired.) These threejars were formerly the property of King Willliam III of Hol-land. A duplicate trio is in the Dresden Museum. Have tallteakwood stands with marble tops. Height, 30/, inchet.
