Description

Photo of inside the EBR-II reactor showing the first molten sodium dripping (top of photo) from the intermediate heat exchanger during sodium treatment.

During Fiscal Year 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Deactivation and Decommissioning (D&D) and Facility Engineering teamed with scientists and engineers from the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) to eliminate highly reactive sodium from the decommissioned Experimental Breeder Reactor II (EBR-II) at the Idaho National Laboratory Site.
