The official,asking us to be seated, read the paper not less thanthree times from one end to the other; but the sig-nature of Count Ponzo Vaglia, the Grand Master ofthe Household of the King of Italy, is sufficientlycharacteristic and well known not to be misunder-stood, and at last the old official took off his glasses,put down the paper, and with an exclamation said,There seems to be nothing for me to do but to makeout the permits for you. May I ask who you are, andfor what purpose you wish the pictures? This is amost unusual permission.
