Description
English: U.S. Navy Cmdr. Joanne McManaman, command surgeon, Joint Task Force Civil Support, explains one of the Navys uniforms as part of a ceremony commemorating the U.S. Navys 235th birthday Oct. 15, 2010, at Fort Monroe, Va. McManaman and 11 other JTF-CS officer and enlisted sailors gave a presentation of the Navys current war fighting capabilities, followed by a cake cutting by the commands oldest and youngest sailors During the ceremony, JTF-CS sailors wore a variety of current and past Navy uniforms, to include working, dress and fatigue uniforms. Created by the Continental Congress on Oct. 13, 1775, the U.S. Navy was designed to intercept transports carrying weapons and stores to the British army in America, according to records on the Navys official website.
