Description
English: NASA has finished packing three important pieces of hardware for Discovery's flight to the International Space Station. The final step in the process was lowering the modules into a payload canister. First transferred into the container was the ESP-2 pallet, a device holding spare parts for the Station. Next into the Payload Canister was the LMC structure, with its ISS attitude-control gyroscope and orbiter repair test kit. The last component loaded was Raffaello, the Italian-built logistics module. The 18,000-pound Raffaello is stocked with gear and food for the ISS crew. Once the module is unloaded, the crew will use it to clean house by bringing 56 hundred pounds of unneeded items back to Earth. With packing complete, the canister's next destination is Space Shuttle Discovery, where its contents will be secured inside the orbiter's payload bay. Once everything is locked into place, all three components will launch into space on the Return to Flight mission.
