| Description |
English: Knowle Locks, Grand Union Canal Taken from the top lock of the group of five closely-spaced locks of the Knowle flight. These locks were widened in the 1930s, along with others on the Grand Union south of here, in an attempt to induce full-width boats to trade up to Birmingham. However the experiment was not really a success and very few wide boats or barges ever used these locks, although pairs of narrow boats were able to work through the locks 'breasted up'. |
