The church of Saint-Austremoine is an old Benedictine abbey built in the first third of the twelfth century and more precisely around 1130, making it the second of the five major churches of Basse-Auvergne. It is dedicated to Austremoine de Clermont or Stremonius, first bishop of Clermont-Ferrand and evangelizer of Auvergne at the end of the 2nd century. It has been classified as historic monuments since 1840: it is part of the first list of French historical monuments which had 1,034 monuments.
