Lefileur ayant choisi un tube de verre, soit blanc, soit coloré,approche de la lampe lune de ses extrémités. Dés que cettepartie du tube commence à se ramollir, le fileur la saisità laide dune petite pince, et écartant les bras, il obtient,grâce à la ductilité du verre, un fil dun mètre environ,adhérent dun côté au tube principal, et de lautre à lapetite masse entraînée par la pince. A cette dimension assez restreinte dun mètre environ,sarrêterait la longueur du verre filé, si lindustrie navaitinventé le moyen den obtenir une, pour ainsi dire, indé-terminée. Ce moyen consiste à fixer lextrémité du verreattenant à la pince à une roue en tôle qui, mise en mou-vement, est placée à peu de distance de la lampe.
