Situated on an elevation at the southerly end of the little town, thisbuilding, the second edifice of the Congregation, was erected in 1822 byNew Englanders, come to Northeastern Pennsylvania when the Yankee-Pennamite question was fast reaching a point of fanaticism. The structure, laid on massive foundation stones, is typical New Eng-land architecture, painted white, with the tall tapering spire that can beseen for miles around the countryside. The auditorium, surrounded on three sides by a gallery, is furnishedwith old-fashioned high straight-backed pews each with its own door open-ing on the aisle. Many beautiful antiques are still in active use. The quiettasteful simplicity of old New England is the keynote of everythingthroughout the church making it indeed a restful retreat from the frantichurry of modern life. At one side of the church is the old cemetery where rest the ancestorsof the still typically Yankee worshippers.
