Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Large Tree, Small Tree But which is which?

West Park was, until a couple of years ago, most notable for its huge poplar trees. The trunk in the foreground is what's left of the largest of them all. It was felled in 2006 and since then most of the other large ones have met a similar fate.

People like myself, who were saddened by the loss were somewhat bemused by the pathetic looking conifer which was planted to "replace it". The replacement is now gaining strength and the recent addition of an identification "stump" tell us that it is a "Wellingtonia" presumably meaning Sequoiadendron giganteum Sequoiadendron. So if it remains as healthy as it looks currently it will indeed be a worthy replacement and live a lot longer.
