These holes are usu-ally cut with screw-threadsso that the uprights may bescrewed on; they may, how-ever, be riveted. The hip-band is lined on the sidenext the patient with felt,and the whole is covered 92 with leather. The uprights are made of annealed steel,I-, -j^, or f inch wide, and gauge 9,10,11, or 12 in thick-ness, according to the size of the patient. They areeach pierced by three holes at the bottom, each holesomewhat elongated and separate from the next bythe same distance as the holes in the hip-band. Bythis arrangement the brace can be lengthened or short-ened half an inch.
