| Description |
Deutsch: Frontalansicht der Johannes-Nepomuk-Kirche an der Ecke Praterstraße/Rotensterngasse im 2. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Leopoldstadt. Die Kirche wurde ab 1841 nach Plänen von Karl Rösner in Formen des romantischen Historismus errichtet und am 18. Oktober 1846 im Beisein des damaligen Kaiser Ferdinand geweiht. Ein sich nach oben verjüngender Turm mit einer Höhe von rd. 70 Meter dominiert die Fassade ([1]), an der sich in Mauernischen die zwei überlebensgroße Figuren hl. Ferdinand und hl. Anna mit Kind befinden; eine Bezugnahme auf den Kaiser Ferdinand I. und seine Gattin Maria Anna von Savoyen: [2]]. 1945 wurde die Kirche durch Bombentreffer schwer beschädigt. |
