Summary[edit]
DescriptionLimestone outcrop - geograph.org.uk - 1356647.jpg |
English: Limestone outcrop The escarpment that looks over the Vale of Llangollen is made of 350 million year old Carboniferous Limestone. A great deal of the outcrop is actually a linear quarry. Here, two massive beds of grey limestone are separated by a thin bed of shale and rubbly biomicrite. The top of the lower bed shows palaeokarstic features, indicating a hiatus in deposition and fairly prolonged emergence from beneath the contemporary sea before submergence and continued deposition once relative sea-level had risen again. |
