Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Limestone outcrop A surprising rock to find in this area is the Durness Limestone, making outcrops on the hill above the road. A complex geological structure known as the Ord Window brings these Lower Paleozoic rocks to prominence as a consequence of folding, faulting and thrusting. Similar rocks are found metamorphosed to marbles on the southern margin of the Red Cuillin (just visible in the left of the picture).
