Very greatly,indeed, has the writing of John Hay him-self, and of the elder devoted co-biographer,John G. Nicolay, helped in this better living day. A man of light and leadingin our Southern States told me lately thatto him Lincoln was one of the three mostinteresting personalities in all history, oneof the others being no less than the manof Galilee.
